Hall of Preserving Harmony 保和殿

Gilded water vats flank the two sides of the Hall of Preserving Harmony 保和殿 (Bǎo Hé Diàn). The water vats were used for fire control as well as decoration. They would be heated during the winter to make sure the water was ready in case of fire. Below, a detail of the roof shows the nine guardian beasts that decorate the eaves.
