Forbidden City
Gate of Heavenly Purity 乾清门

The west wall of the Gate of Heavenly Purity 乾清门 (Qiánqīng Mén) is seen over the balustrades of the Outer Court. Over the wall you can see the roof tops of the palaces of the Inner Court. The Inner Court was designed as the living quarters of the imperial household. Many of the buildings were adapted to other purposes under the Qing Dynasty. The buildings of the Inner Court were refurbished during the reign of the Qing Emperor Shunzhi in the middle of the 1600s.
