Gold Hat Finial

This gold hat finial, inlaid with pearls and other gems, dates to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The ceremonial hat worn by the emperors were topped with such finials. You can see an example below as the "emperor" passes by in a procession at the Temple of Earth (Ditan) during the temple fair at Spring Festival. The example shown above is quite a bit smaller and might have been used for ordinary occasions or worn by a prince.
