The introduction of the city railway required that arches be added to many of the gates to accomodate the trains. Here we see the railway tracks running between the arrow tower (on the left) and the main gate (on the right). In this case, the defensive enclosure has been totally dismantled. The picture was taken at Chaoyangmen Gate.
