Tile End with Four Tigers 四虎构半瓦当

Tile End with Four Tigers
Pottery from the State of Yan in the Warring States Period 战国燕

This complete tile end lets you see the protective half tube. On the roof, overlapping tiles would cover most of this tile and provide a waterproof seal. This tile is decorated with another instance of the four tigers design. This one has greater relief and detail than the earlier one in this series, but that does not mean a change in timeline, rather it may be simply a change in style or artist. This tile end dates to the Warring States period and was found in the area of the Yan State, in what is now modern Beijing and Hebei province.
