This manger was found in the region of the State of Yan of the Warring States period which occupied areas in the northeast including Beijing and parts of Hebei. This trough is decorated with a cord pattern. When it was formed narrow ropes were wound around the base to decorate the outside. The technique had been used since Neolithic times to both decorate and to give a non-slip surface to water bottles, jugs, and other containers.
