White Pottery God of Longevity 白陶寿星桶

White Pottery God of Longevity
Pottery Designs from the Tang Dynasty 唐代 618 - 907 AD

I was surprised that the museum labeled this statue as shouxing 寿星 , the god of longevity. The standard representation is of a balding man with white hair and a long white beard. He carries a staff and a peach. He is often shown standing beneath a pine. The peach and pine are common symbols of longevity. The god of longevity is a part of the Dao pantheon.
