Civil Official in Grey Pottery
灰陶文官桶
Pottery Designs from the Western Han Dynasty 西汉 206 BC - 8 AD

This figure is only about 5 inches tall. The colors have survived rather well, but originally it would probably have been wildly colorful. The research done on the terra-cotta warriors has shown that the paints applied to statues of officials and military officers reflects a habit of colorful dress made possible by the depth of color achieved when dying silk.
