Neolithic Era
Pottery Statue of a Man's Head

Although blurry, this statue was too important to exclude. This statue of a man's head dates to between 7000 and 5000 years ago. It is crude compared to other work and may have just been a bit of play while resting. It was excavated at Huangling County, Shaanxi. The representation of the world in drawings on pots and bottles is the beginning of artistic expression. Three dimensional works are rarer.
