Neolithic Era
Slender-necked Pottery Flask

The slender neck on this bottle or flask minimizes evaporation while allowing easy pouring. It is thought to have been used for water. Open mouthed jars would have attracted a skim of insects. It would be easy to stuff something into or place something over the neck of this bottle to keep the water clean. It was found at a dig at Beishouling in Baoji. It dates to between 7000 and 5000 years ago.
