Bone Handle of an Awl

This bone handle used on an awl was excavated from Hejiawan Village, Xixiang County. It was used between 7000 and 5000 years ago. Notice the shape which allowed pressure to be exerted without slipping. The ridges would have given purchase to the thumb.
