Shang Dynasty Period
Ding Cooking Vessel
夔纹鼎    烹饪器

This cooking vessel dates from the Shang Dynasty period, the 16th to the 11th century BC. It was excavated from a site in Sanlidong, Tongchuan. It has a dragon design with one horn and one foot.

Note that on this and the successive pages that the items date to the Shang Dynasty period. This is simply a reference date, these are not products of the Shang Dynasty culture. The Shang Dynasty occupied a limited area to the northeast of the Xi'an region, near what is now Anyang in Henan. There were many different cultural developments in different areas of what is China today, but they were largely independent.
