Western Zhou Dynasty
Jasper Bi
玉璇玑   礼器

This jasper ceremonial bi was used as a ritual object during the Western Zhou Dynasty (1027 - 771 BC). Jasper is an opaque and fine grained variety of Chalcedony. The Chinese name for jasper is 碧玉 (bìyù) which means "green jade". It is not a form of jade, but in ancient times the distinction was not made. Jasper actually comes in many different colors and often has a wide variety of patterns.
