Tang Dynasty
Tri-colored Pottery Urn
三彩四教塔式罐   随葬品

This is a detail of one of the insets of the tri-colored pottery urn shown on the previous page. The urn was used as a burial object in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD). The urn was found in 1974 in the tomb of Qi Biming in Xianyang City.

The story is of a village that was facing a terrible drought. The well had run dry and the life and health of the villagers was in peril. One day Caozi realized the danger and brought a jug of water to the well. He gave all of his water to the villagers by pouring it down the well. Magically this filled the well and the village was saved.
