Gold Coin

This Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD) gold coin is engraved with the characters "Kai Yuan Tong Bao". Kaiyuan 开元 (Kāi​yuán)​ is the reign name (713-741) of Tang Emperor Xuanzong 唐玄宗, who reigned at the peak of Tang prosperity. It was issued during the central part of the era betweem 684 and 755 AD. It was excavated with others from Hejia Village, Xi'an.
