Tang Dynasty
Colored Glass Bowl

This glass bowl was made in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD). It was excavated in Hejia Village, Xi'an. Although glass making was known in China as early as the Zhou Dynasty and there were imported glass products and beads during the Han Dynasty, glass just wasn't a big item in China. The preference for porcelain with its varied designs and colors received the attention of artisans over glass.
