Green Glazed Bottom Fill Pot
青釉提梁倒灌壶

The pot is held upside down to fill it. It is filled when water spills from the spout. I would imagine that maids tried to avoid this since the pot would be filled with scalding water for tea. When the pot is upright, the pour tube prevents the liquid from leaking out the bottom hole. The pot dates to the Northern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127 AD) and was excavated at a site in Binxian County.
