This Ding 鼎 has four legs. They commonly have three legs, but four legged examples have been found back to ancient China. When it has four legs it is called a fangding 方鼎, "square ding". This example was made during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1664) and was excavated in Suide County. There is another view on the previous page.
