Jingyun Bell Xi'an Forest of Steles 景雲钟 碑林

Forest of Steles
Jingyun Bell

The Jingyun Bell 景雲钟 was cast in the 2nd year of the Jingyun era 景雲, 711 AD, during the reign of Tang Emperor Ruizong 唐睿宗 (Táng Ruìzōng). It weights six tons. Originally it hung in the Bell Tower and during the Ming Dynasty, it hung in the new Bell Tower. When the Ming Bell Tower was moved in 1582, the Jingyun bell would not ring. Something had happened during the move that deadened the tone. A new bell was made for the Bell Tower and the Jingyun bell was moved to the Forest of Steles.
