Jingyun Bell
景雲钟

The Jingyun bell is inscribed with the calligraphy of the Tang Emperor Ruizong 唐睿宗 (Táng Ruìzōng). Emperor Ruizong was the fifth and eighth emperor of the Tang Dynasty. Just that statement should tell you that he had an "interesting" life. He was one of the younger sons of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian. Empress Wu Zetian was the only female emperor in the history of China. The first time he became emperor because his mother wanted someone to act as a front while she ruled. She quickly found that that was insufficient for her desire to rule and demoted him to Crown Prince and declared herself empress. After she was overthrown, a series of people vied for the throne, but Emperor Ruizong finally got it back in 710 AD.
