Hitching Post

Although the lion was a common decoration on the hitching posts, other more fanciful creatures also kept the horses company. I suppose you could say they were intended to keep evil spirits awsy, but I don't believe it. They were intended to differentiate one door from the next, and one owner from the next. The more conservative stick in the mud would display a lion, but someone with more verve...well, which would you choose?
