Rebecca was written by Daphne du Maurier. It was and is compared to Jane Eyre both for quality and because the content and exploration of a woman's thoughts and feelings are the cental focus of the authors. The relationship between the narrator and Mrs. Danvers is brilliantly portrayed as one that defies the conventions of trust and belief. du Maurier escapes the simplicity of "good and evil" by creating two characters who love deeply. Both are willing to overstep the bounds of morality to defend the object of their love.
